Janet Williams, a mother of 4 and a “Bibi” (grandmother) to 1, is a native of Houston, Texas and has been a resident of Lawrenceville, Georgia, since 2004. Janet has been a consistent client of Valerie Richardson since 2009. Janet is also a promoter of Serenity Salon and can often be seen handing out cards to refer other potential clients. Janet is a former Claim Specialist for a major insurance company, but he recently taken a “Leap” into a new career that she is most passionate about, which is working with individuals on the Autism Spectrum.
Janet’s passion comes from a very personal experience of raising a son on the Autism Spectrum. Jeremiah, who is now 7 years old, was born in 2009 and suffered from many medical issues. Not knowing at the time that a diagnosis of Autism would be in his future, Janet never stopped fighting to obtain the best healthcare and therapy services for Jeremiah.
Jeremiah wasn’t diagnosed until April of 2015, and as a mom who always wanted to be educated and informed about her son’s condition, she sought out resources to help him succeed despite all odds. Janet came across the Autism Speaks website and realized that they had tons of resources here in the State of Georgia, specifically in the Atlanta and surrounding areas. An Autism Walk was being held a month after Jeremiah’s diagnosis at Atlantic Station, so Janet, Jeremiah, her youngest daughter Jayden and one of her co-workers registered to walk. Janet was amazed at the support and resources that were available for her son and she set out a commitment to do more.
Just shy of a year after Jeremiah’s diagnosis, Janet was selected to be the 2016 Walk Chair for the “Walk Now for Autism Speaks Walk, which was held at Turner Field in Atlanta, GA. This walk is one of the largest Autism Walks in the Country and it hosts between 12 to 15 thousand walkers, which includes volunteers, sponsors, families and individuals. Janet and Jeremiah was also featured on WSB-TV’s People 2 People segment that same year and was featured at the Autism Speaks Southern Pieces Gala, which was held at the Marietta Country Club.
Janet’s mission is that, “All things are possible through Christ and with Christ, you can do the impossible”. Janet just recently completed Wrightslaw Special Education Law and Advocacy Training and additional training in subject matter related to individuals with special needs and disabilities.
Janet, remains the 2017 Walk Chair for the Autism Speaks Walk, powered by Love, and it will be held on, Sunday, April 30, 2017, at Turner Field. If you would like to become part of her team or if you would like to make a donation, please register at http://act.autismspeaks.org/goto/jeremiahsjourney . Registration is free and Valerie and the Serenity Salon Team is also a part of Team Jeremiah’s Journey.
Finally, Janet believes that it’s important to support each other’s vision and never have the “crab mentality”. We have to uplift each other and love like there’s no tomorrow!
